Whole-envelope thinking

Ten years of intermittent leaks had been chased one symptom at a time. The real problem was that the roof, the wall, and the window openings had never been detailed to work as one system.

Sequence matters

We rebuilt in the correct order: roof and its flashings first, then the weather-resistive barrier, then window reflashing with sill pans, then rainscreen furring and fibre cement cladding.

Seven weeks on site, fourteen openings reflashed, and one continuous drainage plane from ridge to grade.
